Many people who first begin with blogging, wonder whether they should start by using Google's free Blogger service or get started with a WordPress blog on their own domain. For me, the solution is clearly Blogger.
If you do some looking around the internet, you will probably find that more people suggest WordPress than Blogger.

Why is this?

WordPress has an almost fanatical following because it is very 'Web 2.0'. It comes with the inherent ability for users to utilize third party plugins, as well as little add-on programs called widgets. These add-ons improve the functionality of the blog and make it more appealing. If you do a query on Google for WordPress widgets, you could come up with a few weeks worth of resources.

So if WordPress has so many handy plugins and widgets, then why do I recommend Blogger. The answer is straightforward. I am looking for visitors from the search engines and in particular traffic from Google. Since Google owns Blogger, I think we would be simple minded not to assume that they give their own blogs more search engine love. To me that's the bottom line.

Also, it is so easy to make blogs using Blogger. Even a beginner can have their first blog set up within 10 minutes. It is also extremely straightforward to add Google AdSense to Blogger blogs, while it's more difficult on WordPress blogs. Once you have gotten your AdSense publisher ID, you simply click a link to add an AdSense block to your blog and you can start earning income.

So the selection is a no-brainer, if you want a pretty, artsy blog, then go with WordPress. If you want a blog that you can set up quickly, get loads of traffic and make some quick AdSense money, then go with Blogger.

There are also a handful of excellent software programs available, that let you create and keep track of multiple Blogger blogs from a centralized location. This makes it even easier to make money with Blogger.
